The question was raised whether the default sync type on new installations
could be switched to git. Already in the mailing list thread it became
clear that our infrastructure is not ready for that yet.
During discussion, the fragility of the initial cloning was pointed out as
one main issue. The topic was referred to the mailing lists for
clarification and further planning.

There has been no significant progress.
